GOAL SETTING!

PENTING KE GOAL SETTING?

Date : 15 November 2019
Day :  Friday

GOAL SETTING sangat penting umpama WAZE dlm kehidupan kita.
Kalau tak set goal, kita sebenarnya membiarkan diri menjadi seperti LALANG YG DI TIUP ANGIN. Takde arah tujuan.. Membiarkan diri hanyut jer.
.
.
Walaupun nampak mudah, kajian dari HARVARD pun dah jelas menunjukkan tak ramai pun CAN DO IT! Tak percaya, bole baca more details kt link bawah ni.

Sebenarnya hidup lebih mudah dgn adanya MATLAMAT YG JELAS.
Semoga coretan ni bermanfaat utk yang membacanya.

Love,
soAmazing

MENGENAL DIRI

Kenal ke?

QUESTION TO ASKED
Kita dah kenal ke diri kita sebenar? Potensi dan kebolehan diri kita. Mungkin, kita pernah terlintas dalam fikiran..

..aku pun boleh buat macam tu.
..aku pun tau gak buat benda macam tu..
..aku buat lagi baik ...

Macam orang bijak pandai salu cakap, "Easy to said than done".

SOLUTION
So, kalau kita masih lagi keliru dengan potensi dalam diri kita... why not kita start semak diri, muhasabah diri, fokus untuk kenal diri supaya kita boleh gunakan kelebihan semua dengan betul.

So, nak kenal diri bukan mudah tapi kita harus bermula.

Sooner or later, matlamat tu akan membantu kita heading to our ultimate goals tu.

So, sekarang tanya diri sendiri... KORANG NAK APA DALAM HIDUP NI?

KALAU BOLEH JIMAT, KENAPA NAK MEMBAZIR...

14 July 2019
11 Zulkaedah 1440H
Ahad

Exam lagi 3 minggu. Rupa-rupanya....jeng jeng jeng. Amik kau, sikit lagi nak sama tebal Calculus Textbook. Termenung jap sis tengok notes yg tebal. Dalam hati, ni bukan notes. Ni dah jadi textbook...huhuhuhu. Sis belek-belek notes tu, rupa-rupanya notes tu memang slide-slide yang lecturer share dalam kelas. Tepuk dahi! Kenapa laa aku tak check dulu. Harga pulak dalam RM36. So, sis pun muhasabah cepat-cepat kesilapan sis. Supaya TIDAK BERULANG LAGI. Bak kata bijak pandai,

"JANGAN JATUH KE DALAM LUBANG YG SAMA DUA KALI."

Apa yg terjadi sebenarnya?
1) Nak cepat
2) Dalam fikiran, dah imagine softcopy notes bertukar menjadi hardcopy notes.
3) Terus ke kedai printing dgn bayangan "nak hardcopy"
4) Bagi softcopy kat kedai dan suruh "PRINT SEMUA DAN ONE PAGE EACH"

Hasil :
1) Notes yg tebal (not handy, susah nak usung sana sini utk ulangkaji)

Yeayyyy assignment dah siap! Boleh fokus utk study for EXAM.

a) Berapa muka surat?
b) Apa yg terkandung pada setiap muka surat tu. SLIDE ke NOTES?
c) Boleh compress jadikan SATU PAGE je ke?

"TENANG ITU MENANG" - bak kata Prof Muhaya.

"HOW AM I GOING TO GROW TODAY?"  Tanya diri sendiri and move forward.

The End,
Student+working mom
Semoga bermanfaat.

Be awesome!

You are the company you keep

Earlier sis singgah di satu website >>>> "https://interestingengineering.com/9-ways-you-can-train-your-brain-to-be-smarter"

Engineering is my passion. So anything related dgn engineering akan trigger my sense. Anyway, back to my original intention. One of the point dlm tu bgtau...YOU ARE THE COMPANY YOU KEEP.  So....the 5 people we spend the most time with are ....
Prof Muhaya, Ustaz Abdul Somad, Ustaz Elyas, Ustaz Kazim, Azizan Osman, Ustazah Norhafizah, Ustazah Isfadeah, Ustaz Muhammad Al Amin opsss dah terlebih. Rupanya lebih dari 5 which is good for me. Later nak list kan kesemuanya semoga sis bole know myself better.

Jom muhasabah diri!

8 SYAWAL 1440H

Tarikh : 12 Jun 2019 / 8 Syawal 1440h
Hari : Rabu

Bismillah.
Assalamualaikum wbt

Sekejap je dh 8 Syawal, aritu baru 8 Ramadhan. Tadi one thought cross my mind and sblm terlupa, sis nak abadikan lintasan fikiran tu di sini utk self-reference di masa hadapan.

" Dalam hidup ni, kita hanya bole buat 1 benda dlm 1 masa"

Even klu kita nak sesuatu pun. Kita cuma bole dptkan 1 benda dlm 1 masa.

Fikir2kan.

Ramadhan Hari ke 8

Tarikh : 13 May 2019 / 8 Ramadhan 1440H
Hari : Isnin

Lama dah tak menulis di blog ni. Rindu jugak. Banyaknya monolog2 dlm fikiran, tapi bila mula menulis...ntah mana pergi cetusan2 fikiran yg memenuhi minda tu hilang.

Ya, bulan puasa..bulan Ramadhan..bulan yg diberkati .. from my humble opinion ni. Memang best sangat.

Rata2 utk berpuasa nmpk mcm mudah. Menahan diri dari makan dan minum. Tapi sebenarnya lebih lagi. Menahan nafsu shopping melampau2 sampai membazir, berbelanja di bazaar ramadan atau tmpt membeli belah sampai terlebih beli & beli yg tak perlu...sedangkan tugas utama kita di bulan Ramadhan adalah MENAHAN NAFSU. Segala nafsu, nafsu shopping, nafsu membazir, nafsu nak marah, nafsu mengumpat, nafsu makan secara berlebihan....on top of that, yg berat sggttt nk kawal masa bulan puasa ni CETUSAN HATI & LIDAH. Ini pada pandangan sis.. sbb hati sentiasa berkata2.. dlm jammmm dia mengomel2 mcm2.. Nak twist jadi zikir jadi sabar, di bulan ramadan ni lah kalau nak mula. Sbb bulan ramadhan ni banyak bantuan yg Allah bg & byk jgk ganjaran yg Allah nk bagi.

Sebelum mula menulis ni tadi, mmg sis terfikir2 sendiri...bukan mudah nk mendidik hati & lidah ni JADI LURUS. Ikut acuan ISLAM dgn sebenar2nya. Tambah2 lagi iman manusia ni turun naik. Tapi itu bukan alasan. Nak seribu daya, tak nak seribu dalih.

Rasanya, setakat tu dulu coretan sis. Smg di bulan yg mulia ni, kita bole start HABIT baru yg mengikut acuan ISLAM & praktikkan akhlak seindah akhlak Rasululllah SAW. Kena cuba sikit2 dlu, istiqamah... jommm.

WHY SETTLE FOR LESS IF YOU CAN HAVE THE BEST

"Dont wait until everything is just RIGHT. It will never be PERFECT. There will always be CHALLENGES, OBSTACLES and LESS THAN PERFECT CONDITION.

And another thing is .... ONCE you set your DREAM, PLAN IT!

Macam simple kan, tapi tak semua ade kekuatan nak bertindak. Sebelum tu, setiap hari pun dah bagus sangat. SEBAB nobody can change OVERNITE!

Yang penting, kita initiate. Perlu JELAS dgn APA YG KITA NAK! Dan RANCANG cara nak achieve MATLAMAT tu. Inshaallah, pasti dapat.

Masa akan terus berlalu walaupun we choose to STAY NUMB. Tak nak berubah dan SELESA. Ayam tetap berkokok setiap pagi walaupun kita tak sedar subuh dah hampir ke masa syuruk.

It is all up to us. KITA.. we are the one who control ourselves. Kalau org arah-arahkan kita, kita tak suka. Kalau orang kulikan kita, kita tak suka. SO, CHANGE!

Kalau kita tak suka sesuatu keadaan tu, CARI JALAN.

HADAPI KESUSAHAN DGN SENYUMAN & RAHSIAKAN..JGN SHARE!

Bismillah.
Allahumma solli ala Muhammad.

Semoga bermanfaat.
Have a blessed Monday!

JADILAH MANUSIA BERMANFAAT- Individu yang Produktif part 1

Assalamualaikum warahmatullahi wabarakatuh.

Hari ni 1 Rejab 1438H bersamaan dengan 29 Mac 2017, Rabu.  Bulan Rejab ni banyak kelebihan2 nya tapi for now admin bukan nak story tentang bulan Rejab tapi nak share tentang produktiviti. Produktivi sebagai seorang individu. Set thing that achievable dulu. Dh success bab produktivi individu baru kita upgrade pulak.

Okey now, setiap hari kita buat rutin yang sama.

Now, berbalik kepada cerita asal PRODUKTIVI INDIVIDU.
Dipendekkan cerita, admin huraikan dalam bentuk tips supaya senang nak faham ye.

Bagaimana menjadi Individu Yang Produktif
So utk dptkan ilmu yang betul, kita kena tahu kenal apa matlamat kita. So di situlah penting MATLAMAT / GOAL/ TARGET.
  2. GOALS/ MATLAMAT/ TARGET :- apa yang ingin kita capai? Goals/matlamat/target ni sama lah seperti DESTINASI YANG DI TUJU. Apakah destinasi kita? Mestilah pejabat atau tempat kerja kita bukan? Bukan shopping mall atau muzium atau zoo negara. So, perlu jelas dengan matlamat. Barulah kita nampak yang lain-lain nya.
So, admin kongsikan dulu 2 tips ni. Readers semua buat homework. Praktis terus. 2 tips saja kan. Gerenti boleh punya. Next post, kita sambung lagi. Inshaallah.
Remember! Set achievable goals. You can do it when you think you can. You will do it if you think it is important to you.

Fikir-fikirkan.

Untuk kejayaan anda,
Admin.

CHANGE

The Art of War - Sun Tzu
Robert Kiyosaki
Think and Grow Rich

These are books that  I used to read back few years ago. (to be specific before 2011). I felt enlighten and give me an insight that I never know and learn if I never read those books.
Since 2011 onward I was so occupied with everything and I learn more by listening to CDs and radio since my life always on the go.
This year I am missing something. The pleasure of reading, the feeling and the insight I get when I read those motivation,self-help books.
Early this morning, Ustaz in Tanyalah Ustaz asking his audience. "Why we have big heart when we were young and become opposite when we getting older?  This question keep lingering in my mind. I was thinking-what was happen to me? I used to do the thing I love to do but now ?.. It seem quite hard to do those things...
I need to back to ONE.
Thinking, planning, strategies, action, focus and achieve my goals.
The most important thing in my life is my purpose,my ultimate goals.
There is saying >>> When you start chasing your dreams, sometimes you will meet some interesting thing along the way.<<<<

One of my favourite quote:-

THREE SIMPLE RULES IN LIFE
1- If you do not GO after what you want, you'll never have it.
2-If you do not ASK the answer will always be NO.
3-If you do not STEP FORWARD, you will always be in the same place.

HOLISTIC

Word of today is HOLISTIC.
Meaning : relating to or concerned with complete systems rather than with individual part.
Full Definition:
1: of or relating to holism
2: relating to or concerned with wholes or with complete systems rather than with the analysis of, treatment of, or dissection into parts < holistic medicine attempts to treat both the mind and the body>
Source : Merriam-Webster Dictionary.

Why I chose HOLISTIC ? Back a few years ago, when i first met with this word. I really thought it is something related to the word of HOLY. Of course I am not googling the word just because I read for pleasure and it is okey if i do not know the meaning of one or two words. But right after that, HOLISTIC keep chasing me. I always found this word so many times. Until one day i finally reached one of my thick volume of dictionary and look up for the word. Ahaaaa.... i laugh to myself. The definition is totally contrast with the one I have in mind. Holistic vs Holy. It is okey and life goes on. But my life a step higher than before.

I get used with this word in Bahasa Melayu and I don't care very much.
Holistic = Menyeluruh

But getting to know this word in English does make a different in my life. I was so ignorant for this word long time ago but today i found how useful this word for me. I used to use "the whole...of anything" in writing. But now I know how "holistic" reflect my life. It is never too late and I still learning.
Learning never ends.

Reflections of "holistic".

To see one's life holistically as a daughter or son, as employee or self-employed, student or learner and most ultimately as a khalifah in this world.

Find ways...

28 May 2015
10 Syaaban 1436H
Thursday

~~~~~~~~~~~~
Close your eyes and take a deep breath.
Stop. Pause. Relax.
~~~~~~~~~~~

"The rock seem too big and I feel like I may not make it.
That rock is big enough and it get bigger in my mind.
The voice in my head keep saying ..this is too hard!
But deep inside, there is a will which encourge me to keep going.
Find a way NOT excuses!"

Anything is POSSIBLE once you SET your mind to it.
That 's why you MUST SET your mind correctly from the beginning.
If I stay behind this big rock, I will go nowhere.
I will be here.
As I always do. I will stay here forever?
oh no!!!

It is time to change my thought, plan, strategy and actions.
Nothing can stop you if you believe you can.
Don't stop when you find it is hard.
Always find ways....

Like the famous saying..."take time to sharpen you axe, you will chop more"....

Acknowledgement, if I must say..

When I first decided to start writing, it is all about me. My life and the reflection of my very own life and I wish in future I will grow much better. All those motivation pictures and quotes are not mine of course. The credit goes to the owner and I just share them on my blog simply because sometimes I need a motivation to move on and when the time has come, I can simply refer to these motivations pictures and quotes.

If anyone feel offence reading my writing. Apologize me and please stop reading.I have no intention to offence anyone. As I mention earlier, I write because I feel to write and it is all about what is going on in my life.

That's it for now.

Have a good day!

Amalan Awal tahun Bulan Muharam

Pesanan daripada Sheikh Mahmud Al-Maghlani@IKIM.FM

PESANAN 1 : Di bulan Muharam setiap tahun.

Masa    : Bermula 14 Muharam hingga 21 Muharam setiap tahun.
Tempoh: 7 hari
Manfaat : Tiada di timpa sihir buat selama-lamanya, inshaallah.

PESANAN 2 : Amalan sepanjang tahun

PESANAN 3 : Amalan sepanjang tahun.

Amalan : Mengucap, membaca tarbiah ( Labaik Allahuma Labaik )
Niat     : " Ya Rabbi, kurniakanlah aku dapat naik haji.
Masa   : Setiap kali selesai solat tahajjud dan solat subuh.
Manfaat : Allah mudahkan dia naik haji tahun itu, inshaallah.

PESANAN 4 : Amalan sepanjang tahun

Amalan : Perbanyakkan berselawat ke atas Nabi junjungan Muhammad SAW.
Manfaat : Allah mudahkan segala urusan.

Persoalan mengenai keberkatan selawat :

Menurut Sheikh Mahmud Al-Maghlani, jangan dikacaukan fikiran dengan orang lain. ( spt .." ini berkat selawat) tapi TAK. Yang sebenarnya begini.

1. Keberkatan Saidina Sallallahu alaihi wasallam.

1. Jika kau beribadah pada Allah, jagalah pikiranmu baik-baik.

2. Jika kau berada di rumah orang lain, maka jagalah pandanganmu.

3. Jika kau berada di tengah-tengah majelis, jagalah lidahmu.

4. Jika kau hadir dalam jamuan makan, jagalah perangaimu.

5. Ingatlah Allah selalu.

6. Ingatlah maut yang akan menjemputmu

8. Lupakan semua kesalahan orang lain terhadapmu.

How To Focus On What Truly Matters

In my life I’ve gone through periods of intense, driven productivity – months where everything fell into place, and my goals almost seemed to accomplish themselves. At the other extreme, there have been times in my life where I was completely overwhelmed, burdened by my different projects and responsibilities – and frustrated because so many of them not only challenged me, but didn’t matter to me. There were days when I asked myself how did I end up here? How did I end up working on all these things that aren’t who I am, and that don’t represent where I am going?
Some of our projects are extremely important to us, some matter a little – and some simply don’t matter to us at all. In this guide I’d like to discuss how to define and focus on what truly matters – and then discuss some strategies for making time for them.

Breaking It Down

Here are a few question to help you focus on what truly matters – and cut from your life items that don’t.

What does my life look like ten years from now? I love projecting into the future and imagining my life: mentally time traveling to picture where I want to be. The power of this exercise is even more apparent when you consider that you are the product of where you came from. Think of your favorite memories, people and events from your past and you’ll see things that have shaped you into the person you are today. Similarly, looking ten years down the road and imagining what I want helps me focus my energies today to make it happen tomorrow. If my future daydream is filled with thoughts of spending time with my family and celebrating with friends – then that tells me I need to focus on maintaining those relationships today.
What is my purpose? Leo has previously discussed his life’s purpose and tips for finding your own life’s mission. If you have determined your life’s mission, that provides a foundation for where you should be spending your time – along with the activities, and ends, you should be focusing on. This is sometimes difficult because we may believe our life’s purpose is not in line with a “practical career” – but I disagree. There is no contradiction in using a “practical career” to pull yourself out of debt so you can be free for adventure, or perhaps to send your children to college. The disconnect occurs however, when your “practical career” is padding your bank account with money which means little to you – and you wish you were out living your true purpose instead.

What excites me? Sometimes we are scared to admit to ourselves what we really want to do, and who we really want to be because it’s not popular, or because it’s not as secure as the job we have. Deep down however, we know what excites us. We know what gets our heart pumping, and what gets us excited to jump out of bed in the morning.

What can I let slide? There are never enough hours in the day to do everything, absolutely everything, that I have some interest in doing. There is, however, enough time in the day to do everything that I am truly interested in, and that truly matters. Find what you can let slide -and then let it.

Do the consequences have meaning Every task and project has outcomes and consequences – but consequences don’t matter in and of themselves. What matters is how much those consequences mean to us. Sometimes we fight, claw and struggle towards down a path because other people want us to have the rewards at the end, or because the ends sound impressive – but if they don’t have meaning to us, then we will not be satisfied with the accomplishment. In other cases we may have initially pursued a goal, but our interests and purpose changed. If something doesn’t mean anything to you, then regardless of how important it is to others, how impressive it may be or how important it may have been in the past, it may be time to let it go.

Making Time

You may already know what truly matters in your life – but are finding it difficult to make time for it, and to focus on it. Here are some tips to help you make time for what truly matters:

Do it first. In Zen To Done Leo suggests picking your 3 Most Important Tasks (MITs) and doing them first thing in the morning. Similarly, once you find what truly matters, try to take care of it first before spending time on tasks that matter less to you. Some people have experienced significant increases in productivity when writing, working out, or meditating early in the morning. I personally believe in paying myself first with my time, and live it every day. I work on my personal goals first thing in the morning, before I do anything else. This way every day begins positively and in line with my future.

Schedule it in. I’m very busy, and so is m family. My parents and I want to make time for each other however, so I literally schedule dinner in on my Google Calendar. I treat that appointment with the same seriousness as anything else in my life. It’s a commitment to my future and what truly matters.

Treat it as an emergency. My life is booked back to back with work, appointments and various commitments – but when I had to go into surgery for appendicitis, none of the little boxes in my task list got checked off that day. Instead, my routine came to a halt as I dealt with my medical emergency. If you’re having trouble letting things slide, or aren’t sure where you can make time, then consider treating your life mission as an emergency. Clear important, but unnecessary items off your schedule for a day – and let them go. Every day that you spend on tasks that don’t matter is a day you can never recover – and that, to me, is an emergency.

What Truly Matters, Matters

We all know deep down there are different things that drive us – hobbies that excite us, passions that we wish we had more time to explore, people we wish could spend more time with. I believe that identifying, focusing on, and spending time on what matters to us, is not simply a thought exercise.

Focusing on what truly matters, truly matters.

How to Stick to Your Goals Even If You Never Could

One of my biggest struggles is finishing something that I started.

I would always be excited and have all this energy in the beginning, but like a child with a new toy, the excitement fades away and the goal doesn’t seem worth doing anymore so I would just give it up and move on to the next exciting thing.

Although there is nothing wrong with having a lot of ideas, I wasn’t accomplishing the things I wanted to achieve by starting so many new projects and goals. I was actually diluting my efforts and wasting my time because I would never reach my desired outcome.

I have now learned a great way to stick to my goals. It came to me after I heard this classic story:

It’s the middle ages and there were 3 stone masons hard at work when a visitor stopped and asks each of them “What are you doing?”

The first stone mason said in a harsh voice, “Can’t you see? I’m carrying rocks!”
The second stone mason replied in a more resigned voice, “I’m building a wall.”
The last stone mason responded with enthusiasm, “I am building a beautiful cathedral that will glorify God for centuries to come.”

Who do you think felt the most fulfilled? Who would you bet on to achieve their goal?

Now every time I set or evaluate a goal, I ask myself the question “What are you doing?” and I listen to my answer. I have discovered personally that when I see the bigger purpose behind my goals, it is much easier to do what it takes to achieve it even if I don’t feel like doing it. If the goal doesn’t have a bigger purpose, then it is not worth doing because I’ve come to learn that time is my most precious resource.

So … what are you doing?

Bahagia

Bahagia nya hidup ini
Bahagia nya diri ini
Bahagia nya

Bahagia
apabila kita telah kenal diri
apabila kita telah mula menghargai diri
apabila kita telah jatuh cinta pada diri
dan kita telah sedar
betapa
berharganya diri kita
melebihi dari segala-galanya

Betapa DIA
telah mengurniakan nikmatnya yang terindah
buat diri
buat kita
yang selama ini
tak mampu melihat
dek keliru dengan keindahan lain
di luar yang tak pasti bahagianya

Bahagia itu rupa-rupanya
Di sini
Di dalam hati ini
Yang baru di temui
Kerana baru diteroka
Yang selama ini
Terlupa dan dilupakan...

Bahagia lah diri mu
Dan dunia akan bahagia bersamamu

Mulanya bahagia
Adanya dalam diri
Dalam kita
Milik kita
Bukan yang ada di luar
Memang telah ada di sini
Cuma mata hati
Yang alpa
Yang buta
Kerana itu
Tiadalah kita sedar
Ia ada di sini sejak dulu

Flash of thought 5

“Finish each day and be done with it. You have done what you could. Some blunders and absurdities no doubt crept in; forget them as soon as you can. Tomorrow is a new day. You shall begin it serenely and with too high a spirit to be encumbered with your old nonsense.”
Ralph Waldo Emerson

Life is a challenge, meet it.
Life is a duty, complete it.
Life is a game, play it.
Life is a promise, fulfill it.
Life is sorrow, overcome it.
Life is a song, sing it.
Life is a struggle, accept it.
Life is a tragedy, confront it.
Life is an adventure, dare it.
Life is luck, make it.
Life is too precious, do not destroy it.
Life is life, fight for it.”

Flash of thought 2

“To laugh often and love much; to win the respect of intelligent persons and the affection of children; to earn the approbation of honest citizens and endure the betrayal of false friends; to appreciate beauty; to find the best in others; to give of one’s self; to leave the world a bit better, whether by a healthy child, a garden patch or a redeemed social condition; to have played and laughed with enthusiasm and sung with exultation; to know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived—this is to have succeeded.”

Flash of thought

“This life is what you make it. Not matter what, you're going to mess up sometimes, it's a universal truth. But the good part is you get to decide how you're going to mess it up. Girls will be your friends - they'll act like it anyway. But just remember, some come, some go. The ones that stay with you through everything - they're your true best friends. Don't let go of them. Also remember, sisters make the best friends in the world. As for lovers, well, they'll come and go too. And babve, I hate to say it, most of them - actually pretty much all of them are going to break your heart, but you can't give up becuase if you give up, you'll never find your soul mate. You'll never find that half who makes you whole and that goes for everything. Just because you fail once, doesn't mean you're gonna fail at everything. Keep trying, hold on, and always, always, always believe in yourself, because if you don't, then who will, sweetie? So keep your head high, keep your chin up, and most importantly, keep smiling, because life's a beautiful thing and there's so much to smile about.”

Ramadhan : Time to break the habit of PROCRASTINATING.

How to Stop Procrastinating:

7 Timeless Tips

Tomorrow is often the busiest day of the week.”
Spanish Proverb
“How soon ‘not now’ becomes ‘never’.”
Martin Luther
“A year from now you may wish you had started today.”
Karen Lamb
One of the most common problems is procrastination. We know what we want to do and should do. But still we end up spending hours upon hours doing “easier” work or escaping via TV, blogs or music.
Now, nothing wrong with a little escape from time to time. But if you procrastinate too much you will not get the most important things done. And you will also send yourself into negative spirals where your self-esteem plummets and you spend your days or more in a vague negative funk.
So what can you do? Here are 7 timeless tips to help you to stop procrastinating and start living your life more fully. And if you want to then you can learn much more about becoming more productive, focused and minimizing stress in my training kit The Art of Relaxed Productivity.
1. Stop thinking. Start doing.
“To think too long about doing a thing often becomes its undoing.”
Eva Young
A bit of planning can certainly help you to achieve what you want to achieve. A lot of planning and thinking tends to have the opposite effect.
You think and think and try to come up with “the perfect plan”. A plan where you don’t have to make mistakes, where you will never be rejected, where there will be no pain or difficulties. Such a thing does of course not exist. But as long as you work on that plan you can protect yourself.
2. Don’t blow a task out of proportion.
“If you want to make an easy job seem mighty hard, just keep putting off doing it.”
Olin Miller
”Putting off an easy thing makes it hard. Putting off a hard thing makes it impossible.”
George Claude Lorimer
By over thinking and putting things off you are not only trying to protect yourself from pain. You also make mountains out of molehills. The quotes above are so true it isn’t even funny. The more hours and days you put something off the worse it grows in your mind.
Because you are dwelling on it. And so it expands in your mind. And since you are putting it off you are probably thinking about it in a negative way. This makes a little thing a big Godzilla, a horrible beast that is threatening to ruin your life.
So plan a little and then take action.
Often you don’t even have to plan, you have been there before and you know what needs to be done. So stop thinking and just do it no matter how you feel and what you think. How you feel right now changes as quickly as the weather so it’s not the perfect guidance system or anything. And you don’t have to obey what it says (it’s not chains made of iron). You can just do what you know is right anyway.
3. Just take the first step.
“You don’t have to see the whole staircase, just take the first step.”
Martin Luther King, Jr.
When you start to look too far into the future any task or project can seem close to impossible. And so you shut down because you become overwhelmed and start surfing the internet aimlessly instead. That is one of the reasons why it is good to plan for the future but then to shift your focus back to today and the present moment.
Then you just focus on taking the first step today. That is all you need to focus on, nothing else. By taking the first step you change you mental state from resistant to “hey, I’m doing this, cool”. You put yourself in state where you become more positive and open, a state where you may not be enthusiastic about taking the next step after this first one but you are at least accepting it. And so you can take the next step. And the next one after that.
The thing is, you can’t see the whole staircase anyway and it will shift and reveal itself along the way. That’s why the best of plans tend to fall apart at least a bit as you start to put it into action. You discover that your map of reality doesn’t look like reality.
4. Start with the hardest task of your day.
“Do the hard jobs first. The easy jobs will take care of themselves.”
Dale Carnegie
Maybe you have an important call to make that you also fear might be uncomfortable. Maybe you know you have gotten behind on answering your emails and have big pile to dig into. Maybe you have the last five pages of your paper to finish.
Whatever it may be, get it out of your way the first thing you do.
If you start your day this way you will feel relieved. You feel relaxed and good about yourself. And the rest of the day – and your to-do list – tends to feel a lot lighter and easier to move through. It’s amazing what difference this one action makes.
5. Just make a decision. Any decision.
“In a moment of decision, the best thing you can do is the right thing to do, the next best thing is the wrong thing, and the worst thing you can do is nothing.”
Theodore Roosevelt
We feel bad when we sit on our hands and don’t take action because it’s unnatural. The natural thing is to be a decisive human and take action.
When you procrastinate you want to do something but you don’t take the action that is in alignment with that thought. You become conflicted within.
What you do always sends signals back to you about who you are. Sure, doing affirmations where you say to yourself that you are confident can help you. But taking the confident actions you want to take over and over again is what really builds your self confidence and a self-image of you being a confident person. When you procrastinate you lower your self esteem and send signals back to yourself that you are a ,well, a kinda lame and indecisive person.
6. Face your fear.
“Procrastination is the fear of success. People procrastinate because they are afraid of the success that they know will result if they move ahead now. Because success is heavy, carries a responsibility with it, it is much easier to procrastinate and live on the “someday I’ll” philosophy.”Denis Waitley
I think this is true. It’s easier to live on that “someday…” thought. It’s harder to just take action. To risk looking like a fool. To make mistakes, stumble and not avoid that pain. To take responsibility for your own life.
The easier choice can come with a sense of comfort, with a certain level of success, pangs of regret for all the things you never dared to do and a vague sense of being unfulfilled. You wonder about what would have happened if you had taken more action and more chances.
The harder choice gives you, well, who knows? But it will sure make your feel more alive.
7. Finish it.
“Nothing is so fatiguing as the eternal hanging on of an uncompleted task”
William James
“Much of the stress that people feel doesn’t come from having too much to do. It comes from not finishing what they started.”David Allen
Not taking the first step to start accomplishing something can make you feel bad. But not finishing what you have started can also leave you in a sort of negative funk. You feel fatigued or stressed and sometimes you don’t even know why. It’s like someone zapped your inner power.
If that is the case, go over tasks and projects what you are currently involved in. Is there something there you know you want to finish but haven’t yet? Try to get that finished as soon as you can you will start to feel a whole lot better.
Just be careful. Don’t think you have to finish everything you started. If a book sucks, read something else. Using this as an excuse to quit something that feels hard or unfamiliar is not a good idea. But there is no law that says that everything has to be completed.
